MATCH REPORT: Mickleover 4-1 Clay Cross Town
Mickleover beat Clay Cross Town to book their spot in the Derbyshire Senior Cup Semi-Finals.
An amazing second half display saw Sports breeze past a battling Clay Cross Town at the Don Amott Arena.
Clay Cross Town flew out the gates in the opening stages with two clear chances to score, in the 13th minute Reece Clegg latches onto a low driven cross and in the 15th, Clegg takes aim from a cross from Liam Vardy, however neither of the efforts could break the deadlock.
Mickleover being at home due to Clay Cross’s pitch being frozen used their pitch to their advantage and stretched the Clay Cross defence with Andy Dales who cut inside his man and let fly but his effort flew narrowly over the crossbar.
It was Mickleover who drew first blood, in the 32nd minute, as Dales wreaked havoc again sending an inviting ball into the box for Dylan Edwards to tap into the back of the net.
However, on the stroke of half-time Clay Cross showed signs of life after limiting Mickleover to few chances as a foul in the penalty box gave Ross Duggan the opportunity to level the tie, his effort from the spot was low into the bottom lefthand corner to end the half with a goal apiece.
A massive opportunity went begging for Mickleover at the start of the second half, as some great play saw Edwards 1v1 from a narrow angle, he chose to shoot but missed the target, which kept the tie level.
Mickleover continued to dominate and in the 62nd some lovely team play was finished off by Amarin Robinson who found the back of the net from close range to put the visitors into the lead.
Mickleover topped off an excellent second half display by getting a third and a fourth goal, in the 78th minute a ball from the midfield split the line and Robinson stayed onside and put it past Dando Charlie in the Clay Cross goal, followed moments later by an excellent solo goal by Dales to put the fixture out of reach.
Clay Cross Town battled until the end but a dominant display from Sports was enough to take them into the Semi-Finals.
